borat the movie... not funny enough

Edit, now let me say that this is funny

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb3IMTJjzfo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHRqe9L56t4&NR=1

----------------------
Ok, my cousin showed me borat and while he thinks it's funny I think it's like... dumb.

So I get the references to politics, understand the whole reaction to the jews is to illicit some reaction from us but it's just... I don't get why it's funny at all. Like the subway thing, ok kissing people on the subway means you're going to get hit. NYC for you.

The rodeo thing made others look stupid. I was like ok. Understood that. Many americans just want war. etc.

But there was a lot of other things like the pam anderson bay watch and whatever that was like. ok, this feels like something about mary all over again. It's hard to offend me with crude humor.

And I'm not on a crusade to get him to take back his words on jews and gypsies. But frankly I just don't think it's intellectually funny

give me craig ferguson, conan o brien or some comedian any day.

anyone care to explain why borat the movie was funny to you?

Ok now that I go around the web it seems that the people who hate certain government officials are ...
really rather scary.

So on that note and wary of my own safety, i'm friending the previous comment on politics.

Feel free to respond but if we start getting into "I hate you and you are a f*ing moron", that's when the post deletion comes in.

rich or not it's not right. jealousy, art theft and what original artists simply can't do

Seems like the media has done a wonderful job portraying JK Rowling as evil regarding the 50 year old "fan" who wants to sell his book based on her book for $25. I don't think there's anything normal about a 50 year old trying to make money off the years he spent analyzing the book then crying in court like a wounded dove. the media and himself has displayed it as love for the book. Well in my opinion you could show your fan support very nicely by putting the information online for free.

Now I don't agree with how Rowling is handling this because I believe the time she spent worrying can very well be spent writing her own encyclopedia, aka a MUCH more accurate "factual" version. In other words, why worry? Just write.

But I understand her aggravation because there's not much she CAN do without criticism except ignore it. That's pretty much what famous authors, artists and musicians can do. You tell the fan to stop doing it, they cry or worse they claim it's their hard work and they're supporting you. Go further and try to defend yourself and they say you're an elitist. I personally think its recklessness, not knowing what the author wants, and jealousy.

Sometimes the originating artist has to redouble their passion, cherish those who honor and respect their work, and ignore those who don't. Sadly people also call this elitism because they still believe the originating artists' work is fair game when they're rich.

Anyways, whoever you are, cite your inspirations. Because it works both ways.

If you think your art has never been done, it's yours forever, you're wrong. You always have an influence no matter how far you run from it. No matter how much you hate the inspired, original artist they're there living and breathing. And they published/released/drew it before you did. That's a fact you cannot ignore.

As a more well known artist with a lot of fan artists hounding you, if you think the right thing to do is to persecute fan artists and tell them to stop doing whatever they want because you're the FIRST you're also wrong and appear terribly egotistical even if you're not. It's not easy when someone is ripping you off head to toe, but let that go. Let go of controlling others, keep those who respect you the right way close, and distance yourself from those who are abusive. People can smell selfishness a mile away and if you are genuinely into other people's art, and you are taking the high road they'll notice it.

Whatever you do, keep your ego in check and treat others nicely.

My assignment from hell is done, my first felidi strip is up and the people are so nice and comment even though i made a very surpising and retarded typo (I typed surprise wrong)

I am spending a lot of time responding to comments online and following journals. I am also drafting up my second strip and cleaning up the first. I will need to go and do some errands tomorrow but other than that I'm all set for a week of arting. :)

need to follow up on journals now.

diablo, aoe, Wow grudges

No one wants to hear about school work so about the other stuff I'm doing.

My cousins introduced me to Diablo 2. Fun stuff and I leveled a druid to 70 ish? I think? Also been playing Conquerors and getting much better at that now. I've stopped playing them though for school and also to look at the current state of wow.

You might have noticed that I don't talk about that game anymore.

I'm posting the following kind of as a rant, kind of as "I can't post this on blizz anyways because I'm not a paid supporter."

I know many people have quit and I have a feeling we all have very similar reasons why. It's not really about class problems anymore.

My biggest problem with wow is at level 70 you are forced to raid, arena, pvp, or fish/craft/mule to see all of the game.

That's it. You want to solo/duo/trio an instance in your blue semi purple pvp gear? too bad. You can't touch em unless it's like level 50 (60 if you're well geared). So far the consensus on the "heavily raid biased wow forum populace" is that you pay for world of raid craft. You don't like it you go play another single player game and stop whining.

News flash, that's what we've DONE. That is why on the wow forums you don't HEAR people complaining about the lack of soloable content because they've stopped playing!

Why some people like myself care is that it's just a shame since Wow is a very fun game catered to a smaller player base than it could have easily targetted. It's doing what other mmo's historically have done and that is cater to a small, loyal population (or just to its own dumb ideas) just to satisfy that aspect.

Lots of people quit because of the bias towards raiders and pvpers and until those people wake up and realize "it's just pixels and a game". Very soon, the harcore players are all that blizz has left. So they have the next expansion but on that note I don't care about playing it. I want to just draw my comic when I know the current state of wow won't change.

Bottom line is, I think blizzard's time sink game has turned into a hardcore gaming experience that people like me, people who don't want to pug or memorize the minmax aspects of the game, will not be able to enjoy. The player base will shrink smaller and smaller and smaller until even they wake up and say, "this is not fun anymore. I'm going to play a FPS"

It had a potential to be a sick, addictive and fun experience for everyone. But now it's just a raidfest with daily quests.

If they introduce two man or solo raid adventures that are very hard to get to and have low percentage (compared to normal raid drops) i will come back. Otherwise, why bother sitting through all the social drama, the ims, the chat just to get an epic drop?

I can say I know of 4 other people who feel the same exact way.

Find a good guild to play a raiding game? nty and not the solution.

And it's not that we don't want to play an MMO, it's just that we don't care about raiding with strangers and ass hole raid leaders who are co-dependent on lesser asshole raid leaders just to kill a monster. Nor do we care about being co-dependent on ANYONE.

I know once I play all the solable end game content I will be bored of the game and depending on others to raid. And the saddest thing is, it's not because there is a LACK of content. It's because that content is "exclusive" to raiders and pvpers only who SCHEDULE their game time and play it like a job.

I know many who have done the soloable stuff, got tired and left. And if blizzard still wants this game to be e-sport and fps targetted towards hardcore players, then they have to realize they're catering to an audience who either:
a) has the attention span of a gerbil on crack who loves to pvp. AKA a 12 year old ADD game addict
Or
b) a gamer who treats wow like his/her job and swears profusely at you and believes you're a dumb casual gamer when you don't want the game to play like a job.

In other words, this is not a quality customer base and very soon they too will leave for a better game.

In MMO, change is usually good only if it is justifiably so.

The way wow is heading? yea, most of us don't qualify under gerbil nor gaming professional. At this rate it will be another Horizons for me except this time it ate quite a bit of money.

printer and art both broke.

In Hong Kong I heard my trusty old canon i860 has a dead power supply and though I could technically still use the one at my aunt's place, we decided to buy a brand spanking new Multifunction. God is it sexy and huge. The scans are instant and beautiful and the printing is awesome and can be dual sided. YES, dual sided.

I really slapped myself on the wrist when I nearly bought a large canon pro9000 instead. Yes, the one I have been saying since forever I'd buy. The reason is because of limited real estate and also because it's a printer I only want not need.

I have to be honest with myself and say how many really care about felidi when it comes out.

Not many.

So rather than investing in expensive machinery, I'll tape two pieces of paper together for a large comic sheet rather than printing it through an oversized printer. As for why not just buy a large sheet of bristol and drawing that way, ruling every piece takes time and I am faster and more accurate sketching on the computer. Yes I am much better when refining on paper but while large format sketching is ok, I am slow and messy.

On that note, this has been broken art week for me and that has yet to be fixed. I've been working on page 3 for days now and am taking a while to come up with a layout. Not really a complaint except that there should be more art to show. For once rather than having no ideas or direction, I have scripts, storylines, dialogue and a clear mental imagery for each page for 40 or so pages yet no skill to execute it into finality.

I've got inspiration to keep trying at least.

Still studying history and the readings are becoming easier and easier. It is probably not humanly possible to read everything in the way I want to read it so I must skim but the Great Depression gives new thought to how easy life is for us now, even though we are going through hard times ourselves.

Anyways give me a poke on email.
When someone does something great... with your style

It's occurred to me recently that there's been a boom in terms of comics, especially animal comics. I've recently stumbled across a few that looked like frisket's style and then found one that looked like evana's and now found one that looks like mine.

I'm a perfectionist and as you know i'll never reach my goal. but now i see that people are doing something great with styles not necessarily of their own (but tweaked) I wonder if i should just do what they do and get my friggen story out already.

I am a bit... well shocked people like a style so similar to my own but it will be a challenge to make that style is even better once I get mine out. I guess competition is good in more ways than one. problem is when I keep throwing away layouts the way I'm doing now.

at least I have a script. :P

Happy valentines day :)

Happy valentines day!

Not sure what I am doing up at 5am but my body said "let's wake up".

As for what I am up to I don't want to start today with a rant but I do want to say there are days you simply should be romantic. It's cliche, mushy, and gender biased (nice to be a girl... sometimes) but when people complain about women's rights and how much we've gained it's when I think we might as well abolish valentines altogether.

I think everyone should make an exception today for someone they like. But if people prefer not to make anyone happy well that's your perrogative.

The last thing a girl wants on valentines is a lecture on how expensive something was or the non virtues of valentines. I haven't gotten that yet but sometimes I have a feeling that's what it will become.

Ginga Densetsu, and flying tomorrow

I will be flying tomorrow so will not have internet access for a while. But take a look at a neat series called Ginga Desnsetsu.

Unfortunately I have to youtube this since they have no intention of releasing this to the United states, but if you're a wolf's rain lover this is a very well done series. I'm not a big fanof the design but it's kept true ot the manga and to cater for fans of the 198x series. Fair enough. The artist wants to keep his fans and I honor that :).

I keep that in mind whenever the akita's eye just bugs or creeps me out :)

<lj-embed id="8" />

attitudes behind the "real art is lost" bandwagon

I'm an advocate of peace, harmony and all around pleasantries. I dislike conflict, and find it absurd to get very very passionate about certain things when people are starving, dying, and fighting needless wars. I feel my energy expenditure is better used to bring about something positive and this explains why I dislike critics when people are diligent about improvement and drive themselves hard.

I'm not naming any names. And I'm just exercising my freedom of speech.

But in this post I'll be digging some dirty bits up, and use it to fight what I'm so tired of hearing.

I am an advocate of art in general so when people say "we lost real art to pokemon crap" it is extremely tiresome and useless to me. I feel that every person who picks up the pencil, from a pokemon fanartist to a painter dabbling in fine arts, increases the chance of the audience seeing one more mind blowing illustrator or conceptual artist. For every person who is inspired by the "tiresome" bleach and draws fanart, we increase the chance of an individual inspired enough to create something amazing. So why the criticism?

It probably is the belief that fanart = unoriginal style copying etc. etc. Many say it's so "goddamn easy" to create something people like by borrowing style. That popular artists are choosing the easy route and are not real artists exploring everything they possibly can. If it's so goddamn easy, why is it that these same critics realize this but can't create a style they know would be appealing, popular, unique and fun? And this is where they bitch. "The audience is stupid as well as these artists! I refuse to copy! They only want the same things over and over again! People don't know good art when they see it! Good art takes time and practice!"

I stayed quiet for a while about this, because people get really vehement about copyright, art theft and convolute the issue. Remember the issue is popularity, style, and real art. Not art theft, which is bad and wrong. Although on that note I think some people extrapolate too far.

If someone "steals your style" continue adding something different and eclipse them. If someone profits off your art, approach them when it happens. Life isn't 100% fair, and in business people will see something unique, take it, and improve upon it. The way to stay alive?

Fight back harder and stronger.

I have to say the popular artists have one thing down the self-acclaimed "real artists" may not ever have and that is people skills. From what I've discovered, popularity is based on skill, artistic AND social. And while it's true some don't have as much flavor or pizazz in their art as the "real artists", at least they're good to root for. And for those who have both? Instant 1million+ watches on DA.

So isn't it ironic and hypocritical that "real artists" can't practice what they preach about improvement? That they defend themselves on this by saying "I'd rather cheer for someone with a crappy attitude but awesome art skills than someone who can't hold a pencil"?

I've seen this so many times and I am usually quiet as I'm happy in my own world.

But now I have to say I wish people can improve themselves before bitching about others.

And I guess that's my bottom line to most things in life. It's easy being that backseat driver pointing out flaws in other people. Much much harder to go behind the wheel and experience these issues for yourself.

On that note, I'm done bitching and just finished designing 6 model sheets for felidi! ^____^ I'm not showing. They're a secret for now as I develop it more thoroughly :)

automatic critiques...and assumptions

I've been noticing a trend lately about critiques, which I've stopped giving to focus on self improvement. In certain pieces, where critiques are not asked for, certain people seem to be very focused on issues which they themselves don't know how to fix but want very much to give a critique anyways. I feel this must be irritating to some and this is why.

There are certain personalities people should be aware of and the following types I both regard as mature. Keep in mind they both would like to learn as much information as they can:

Artists who prefer open critique and dynamic research
These artists are very happy to receive any and all critique of their work and view this as a key feature towards learning. They do not feel out of their element when they receive commentary and they prefer it over quiet research. They may not see flaws in their work initially and/or want someone else's opinion to liven up their artwork. They improve over time in this way.

Artists who prefer closed critique or quiet research
These artists do not prefer critique over a well written book and are happy with self research and self improvement. They are realistic with their own work and already see their flaws, therefore spending a lot of time researching and studying methods alone. They are inspired by good work and love to research how an artist did a certain piece. They improve over time in this way.

Artists who fall in between
These artists don't sway either way and can see the good in both and practice both.

While I like to aim for the in between individual I actually am more the second type. I have grown to be more balance as I used to be very annoyed when people tried to change me, accused me of copying, or tried to turn me into a critique lover. I stopped giving critiques, I gave up my popularity, and basked in the love of solitude I have until I realized that one day I will want to meet the public again. And that I should explain this belief of mine.

While I understand that many artists prefer critique, and either their fans or they themselves have set that as the de facto standard, I believe people should accommodate those who are self learners.

I would prefer that people who automatically (this is when I don't ask) critique my artwork provide very obvious and scientific information that rivals or exceeds my own, or doesn't critique me at all.
This may sound elitist, but remember that the conditions are wherein I do not ASK for critique.

When I ask for a critique this is when I invite everyone and will be thankful regardless as my usual methods of research are exhausted.

While I'm a fan of positive response I don't feel this is relevant. Meaning I don't just want fans to love me (though it is always a positive experience). I feel instead that some people work better in groups and some people work better alone.

I art better alone or with people who understands this trait of mine. INTP all the way :)

google makes the world go round, I swear

Motivation is difficult.

During the day I found myself starting to whittle down what I have motivation for and ended up with the following list:
online googling, worrying about x (x=random thing), eating and sleeping.

of course i have to worry so that leaves googling, eating, and sleeping.

a google brings me to zero motivation factor (zmf). then I google "zero motivation" which brings me to naruto. Which then i remember my sister telling me is not easy to get into so I should look for reaper and bleach episodes instead.

But then I feel tired of googline, decide to call it a day, so I can work more on my art tomorrow.

Isn't google like an older sibling you've never had? <3

in other news I am actually working on old art. I'm making rounds to retouch old art since motivation is very tricky for me to get after it starts winding down for no reason whatsoever.

still feeling meh but here's some inspiration

* = personal favorites

*1. Mark Twain
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

2. Luigi Pirandello
In bed my real love has always been the sleep that rescued me by allowing me to dream.

*3. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

**4. Zig Ziglar
People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily.

*5. T. S. Elliot
Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

6. Buddha
All that we are is the result of what we have thought.

7. Ralph Waldo Emerson
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

8. Peter F. Drucker
We know nothing about motivation. All we can do is write books about it.

9. Nora Roberts
If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.

*10. Stephen Covey
Begin with the end in mind.

http://quotations.about.com/od/inspirationquotes/tp/10_inspiration.htm

First thing I should do every xmas season!

Get myself IVed to Starbucks Gingerbread Latte!

It is sooooo delicious! It is what I imagine sex to be, ala coffee style!

But seriously if you are a gingerbread cookie you need to soak yourself in this coffee.

Like me first thing you do after you get up at 7am is run down and walk around until 8am to get this coffee.

Go here! (ignore the calories)
http://www.starbucks.com/retail/nutrition_beverage_detail.asp

*sips a grande now*

may the caffeine and sugar high commence.
